Resolutions or Lifestyle changes?

Updated: Apr 4

Did you make any resolutions at the beginning of this month? Let me guess, it was to be healthier. I’m not mocking you. A lot, if not all, of us have made a resolution to be healthier at least once in our lives. I want to know what has helped you to be successful with your resolutions/goals or what you think was the missing piece(s) to your success. I have some very exciting news! I will begin offering online coaching sessions soon. You will be able to choose from different package options: single month, monthly or the entire year.

One of the most common resolutions or goals people set includes exercising more, slimming down or gaining muscle. These goals can be rooted in vanity, encouraged by your doctor, or come from your own desire to be able to go places or be active with family and friends. Some of these reasons will drive you further and cause you to stick to your goal longer, but let’s explore some tips to get you closer to success. Here are my top 3 suggestions to increase your success with your resolutions/goals:

  1. Meaningful goals – Ask yourself if the goal aligns with your personality and who you want to become. Is the goal exciting? It should not feel like another task to mark off your to-do list. Remind yourself weekly of how excited you are about your goal, by documenting how you feel when you set the goal. Oftentimes the process is not as exciting as the result, so think about it will feel once you reach or exceed the goal.

  2. Accountability – with yourself and others. You need to find ways to motivate you when you do not feel like going to the gym, eating healthy, keeping a food journal, etc. You need ways and people to remind you of your why for pursuing this goal. Use checklists to stay on track and aid with self-check-ins. This support system will increase the likelihood of reaching and maintaining your goals.

  3. Grace – You do not have to be perfect all the time. Unexpected things in life. If unexpected things knock you off course for a day, reset the next. Break your big goal into steps to reach along the way by creating a weekly, monthly, or quarterly plan. Create actionable steps and check in with yourself to make note of any success, no matter how small or big.

I hope this has encouraged you to stick with your resolutions or maybe start one. Know that you are not alone in your health journey! I would count it an honor to help you achieve your wellness goals. Reach out to me with any questions you have about this blog, massage, or health coaching.
