Celebrate each season of your life!

Updated: Apr 4

Pretty bold title huh? Some seasons of our life are pretty tough to just survive, let alone celebrate. Trust me when I say that if you take a deep breath and look at the bigger picture, you will realize there is something to celebrate and be thankful for in almost every situation. It may not be the situation itself, but instead it might be the people who show up to support you or to give you perspective. I learned difficult lessons when my dad passed away, but I have been able to comfort and support friends who have had to deal with a parent passing. It completely sucks, but knowing how to survive the situation provides me with the opportunity to offer comfort, wisdom, and aid. I can offer comfort, wisdom, and support in the exciting seasons as well because I have been in that situation or one similar.

The first weekend in August holds a special place in my heart. I was crowned with two of my rodeo queen titles on that weekend in the past. Twenty years ago, I held the Sidney, Iowa rodeo queen title. This year the rodeo celebrated a huge milestone: the 100th annual rodeo and there was a big celebration at the final performance on Saturday evening. The memories came flooding back during the parade and our introduction at the rodeo. Even with the new faces, we are all bonded by the common experiences during rodeo week in Rodeo Town, USA. I am forever grateful for the excitement and acceptance from my fellow past rodeo queens!

Football season is back! I know it is only preseason football, but it is football none-the-less. As a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, the past few years have been full of excitement and anticipation. Football is a time for me to gather with family, friends and fellow football fans and cheer on our team. I can temporarily forget the problems and stresses of my everyday life. It also has a sense of nostalgia for me as I grew up watching games on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays with my extended family.

Today’s lesson is this: you have the decision to celebrate, or not, the current season of your life. You can go through this season completely miserable and defeated or you can choose to look for and find the silver lining that is present in every situation!
